The Sunder

The Sunder was the single most catastrophic moment in Aeonyra’s recorded history—the climax of The Conflict of Reversal and the event that nearly shattered the cycle of time entirely. It occurred above Gnomonveil, where countless temporal fractures converged into one impossible wound in reality after years of war and reckless manipulation of draconic magic.

In the days leading up to it, the world had already begun to fail. Entire regions experienced overlapping seasons within the span of hours. Armies fought battles against distorted versions of themselves pulled from possible futures. Some people aged decades overnight, while others became trapped repeating the same moments endlessly. The moons, Solyra and Vaela, reportedly shifted through every phase in a single night.

Then the sky broke.

Witnesses described reality above Gnomonveil splitting into layered reflections of different eras of Aeonyra. Ancient ruins appeared suspended beside cities not yet built. The dead walked beside the living without recognizing one another. Rivers flowed in impossible directions, and the stars themselves seemed misaligned. Time no longer moved linearly—past, present, and future all bled together into a single collapsing moment.

At the center of the fracture stood Everwhyn.

The ancient Time Dragon descended upon The Meridian Spire at the heart of Gnomonveil, where the temporal wound had become unstable enough to threaten the entirety of existence. The other realm-shaping dragons attempted to contain the spreading collapse in their own ways: Cryoveth froze expanding fractures in place, Pyraxis destroyed unstable regions before they could spread further, Ithrys tried to reinforce the failing laws of reality, Elarith stabilized collapsing life cycles, and Vorrath erased portions of the damage entirely where restoration had become impossible.

But none of it was enough.

Everwhyn’s final act was known as The Great Realignment—an attempt to forcibly pull every fractured timeline, broken possibility, and overlapping era back into a singular flow. According to surviving accounts, the moment lasted both an instant and an eternity. Some witnesses claimed they experienced entire lifetimes during the event. Others remembered nothing at all.

Then came absolute silence.

When The Sunder ended, the skies above Gnomonveil had returned to normal. The fractured timelines collapsed back into one reality, the temporal storms ceased, and the war abruptly ended.

Everwhyn was gone.

No remains, no final words, and no clear explanation were ever found. Even the dragons refuse to speak plainly about what occurred during The Great Realignment. Some believe Everwhyn sacrificed himself to seal the fractures permanently. Others fear he became trapped somewhere outside the cycle itself—lost within the countless timelines he attempted to mend.

Even now, The Sunder continues to shape Aeonyra. Temporal scars still exist across the continent, and certain nights—especially during The Overlap—people report fleeting visions of impossible moments: armies marching through empty fields, cities flickering between centuries, or the silhouette of a colossal dragon suspended motionless in a fractured sky.
