The Great Realignment
The Great Realignment was Everwhyn’s final and most powerful act during The Sunder. By the final moments of the war, the continent had become fractured beyond comprehension: timelines collided, causality failed, and entire regions existed in multiple states simultaneously. Without intervention, reality itself would have collapsed into permanent instability.
At the heart of Gnomonveil, directly above The Meridian Spire, Everwhyn ascended into the center of the temporal fracture that had spread across the skies. Witnesses described the dragon’s form expanding impossibly across layered reflections of the world, appearing simultaneously ancient, youthful, living, and skeletal—as though every version of Everwhyn across time had converged into one being.
The Great Realignment began when Everwhyn attempted to forcibly re-thread the cycle of time. Fractured histories, broken futures, and splintered possibilities were drawn inward toward the dragon, collapsing together like shards pulled toward a single point. Across Aeonyra, people experienced impossible visions during the event: forgotten ancestors walking beside descendants not yet born, ruins rebuilding themselves in reverse, and entire lifetimes flashing by in moments.
The process nearly destroyed the world.
Cryoveth froze expanding fractures to prevent total unraveling. Pyraxis burned away unstable timelines before they could spread further. Ithrys reinforced the fundamental laws of reality as they buckled under pressure. Elarith stabilized collapsing life cycles, ensuring living things could continue enduring the strain. Vorrath erased irreparably damaged fragments of reality entirely, severing timelines that could no longer be sustained.
Even with the dragons’ combined efforts, the Realignment came at immense cost.
When it ended, the fractured timelines had collapsed back into a singular reality—but not perfectly. Small remnants of alternate histories remained embedded throughout Aeonyra, creating the temporal anomalies that still persist in The Endless Turning. Some people retained memories of lives that never occurred. Entire locations vanished from history while traces of them lingered behind. In rare places, time still behaves inconsistently, as though the world never fully healed.
Most importantly, Everwhyn disappeared during the Realignment itself.
Some ancient scholars believe the dragon became fused with the cycle in order to stabilize it permanently, no longer existing as a singular being but as part of time itself. Others believe Everwhyn remains trapped somewhere within the fractured timelines discarded during the process, endlessly maintaining the balance from beyond reality.
To this day, The Great Realignment is regarded not simply as an act of salvation, but as the moment Aeonyra was fundamentally rewritten.
