Vaela
Vaela is the smaller and dimmer of Aeonyra’s twin moons, often called The Pale Silence. Its cold silver-blue light hangs softly in the night sky, illuminating the world with an eerie stillness that feels distant from the warmth of Solyra. Where Solyra is associated with motion and continuation, Vaela is tied to memory, reflection, endings, and the unseen spaces between moments.
Its presence has long been regarded with equal parts reverence and unease. During nights when Vaela dominates the sky, sound seems quieter, shadows feel deeper, and many claim dreams become unusually vivid or prophetic. In Yesteryn and Morrowtick especially, Vaela is believed to thin the boundary between past and present, allowing echoes of forgotten things to briefly resurface.
Ancient legends claim Vaela was formed from the first stillness left behind by Cryoveth during The Age of Awakening—a celestial remnant of the silence that existed before creation itself began to move. Others believe it watches over the discarded fragments of time left behind after The Sunder, preserving memories and possibilities that no longer belong to the world.
Unlike Solyra’s steady glow, Vaela’s light often appears inconsistent. Some nights its surface seems perfectly smooth and pale; on others, dark patterns resembling fractures, eyes, or drifting shapes become visible across it. Scholars and astrologers argue endlessly over whether these changes are natural phenomena or signs of deeper instability within the cycle.
Vaela is not feared because it is hostile, but because it reminds the people of Aeonyra that not everything lost is truly gone. Beneath its pale light, the world often feels older than it should.
